The deck we are going to build is going to be 12'x24' and 6 feet off of the ground.  The deck will have two levels, one will be 8'x14' in front of the sliding doors and will step up one step to a 12'x10' on the right side. The stairs will come down on the front of the deck off of the 8'x14' to the cement pad below and have access to the garage.  We are going to have a cement pad below the deck of 12x24 also.  Over the door area we are going to have a 10'x10' white lattice covering.  The deck and trim will be gray and the and railing will be white Hampton 36".

Lets get to work!

Begining pictureThe old deck has been torn down, we have leveled the ground and set our forms for the cement pad that is to be below the deck.  We have also dug our footings for the deck and lattice roof structure and they will be poured at the same time.
CementWe will wait a few days for the cement to dry so we do not make any marks on it while we are building the deck.  After a few days it will be cured enough to handle foot traffic, but we will have to still be careful for up to a week to give the new cement time to become hardened.  While the cement is curing, we will finish any remaining dirt work and replace any sprinklers that had to be relocated.
HeaderThe header plate is lagged to the house next.  Here you can see we have used the two sizes of header plates so we can get our two level deck.  Now that the header plate is installed we will begin the substructure frame.
Sub OutlineWe have the outline of the deck substructure.  The two 14 foot 4x4's are to support the overhead lattice work that will be installed when we complete the decking.  All of the 4x4 supports will be covered and bolted to the cement. For now they are temporarily attached to help us level the deck.
JoistsThe joists are about finished and we also included a row of bridging for added stability.  Since the vinyl is not screwed to the substructure of the deck, the bridging will keep the joists from moving side to side.
MountsThe 4x4's have been sleeved with vinyl and permanently attached to the cement.  The supporting substructure is now complete and ready to have the clip strips screwed down.  The post mounts are now being installed.
Clip StripThe post mounts are complete, the clip strip is being screwed down, and we have also installed the fascia for the step between the two levels of the deck.
StairsThe Clip Strip has been installed on the top deck section and the stair substructure has been built.  The steps will have post mounts and clip installed also.  Once this is done, we will be ready to start installing the vinyl flooring.
Stair JoistsThe stair section is now ready for Clip Strip and decking.  We have already started installing the decking on the top section.  We will continue installing the decking and fascia.
DeckingThe decking and fascia are now complete and we have begun with the railing.
RailingThe railing and post caps have been installed.  The next step will be the overhead lattice to be used for shade, and to install a gate at the top of the stairs.
Overhead SubWe have completed the substructure to support the lattice.  For the substructure we used ranch planks and will lay the lattice on top of them.

FinishedFinishedThe project is complete.
